Organizational Setting
FAO will lead the implementation of GCP/KYR/022/ROK - Support to establish the legal and institutional framework for organic farming in the Kyrgyz Republic. The main objectives of this project will be to support the establishment of the legal and institutional framework on organic farming production and organic certification, and to strengthen the capacity of farmers in organic production and marketing. In this respect, expected outcomes of the project are improved legal basis, institutional framework, inspection and certification system and capacities of state experts and specialists in relevant areas as well as enhanced market share of organic products from Kyrgyzstan within the global and local organic markets.
Applications are invited for the position of an International Agriculture Marketing and Value Chain expert to provide the technical support towards the implementation of the GCP/KYR/022/ROK project. This consultancy has a duration of 25 working days over 24 months, including three technical missions to Bishkek of about 15 days and 10 days deskwork.
Reporting Lines The International Agriculture Marketing and Value Chain specialist will work under the technical supervision of the FAO Representative in Kyrgyzstan and the FAO-REU Economist on Commodity and Trade, and Plant Production and Protection Officer (LTO).
Technical Focus Organic agriculture marketing research and value chain analysis.

Tasks and responsibilities The International Agriculture Marketing and Value Chain expert will have the followings tasks:
- Review existing market (market supply, demand, prices, movement, and market policies) of overall agricultural products and in particular organic products;
- Work with the national consultants on organic production and their market potential;
- Participate in conducting in-depth analysis of market (domestic and export for organic certified and labelled products (marketing channels, product range, markets in cities, export opportunities, etc.), market potential. and its competitiveness in the international markets;
- Support value chain gap analysis and assessment of value-chain constraints of the highest priority products;
- Assist to identify market opportunities and marketing strategies and stimulation of related civil society organizations;
- Conduct market study of selected organic products in potential international markets;
- Assist in identification of priority organic crops and pilot project zones in Kyrgyzstan and conducting detailed comparative study on advantages of products marketed as organic;
- Facilitate trainings in organic agriculture marketing, trade and value chain;
- Support an awareness raising campaign of consumers and opinion groups for marketing of certified and labelled products in the country;
- Support trade promotion/facilitation activities (such as study tour, networking, policy dialogue etc);
- Participate to the workshops and training programs and present the world-wide status and the preliminary results of the cases in Kyrgyzstan;
- Prepare proposals for support policies;
- Prepare a brief report summarizing findings, conclusions and recommendations.
- Perform any other duties when required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced university degree in Agriculture Economics and Marketing or related field
- Seven years of relevant experience in the areas of agriculture marketing research and development and value chain analysis.

Technical/Functional Skills
- Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is desirable
- Extent and relevance of experience in agriculture marketing research and development, value chain analysis for organic produces and products
- Extent and relevance of experience in carrying out market surveys and feasibility studies and analysis, particularly in the area of organic agriculture
- Extent and relevance of experience in writing clear and concise reports
- Excellent communication skills in English and strong computer, report writing, and presentation skills
